Nine charged with unlawful assembly over anti-IEBC demos

Nine people arrested during Cord-led led demos against the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission have been charged with taking part in unlawful assembly.

Mr James Mungao and eight others appeared before Senior Principal Magistrate Joyce Gandani in Milimani Law Court on Tuesday and pleaded “not guilty.”

The nine were freed on a bond of Sh10,000 each and an alternative cash bail of Sh2,000 each.

Two people were reported dead in Siaya on Monday and another in Kisumu following the demonstrations. Police have been blamed for the killings.

A prosecutor said the nine arrested in Nairobi were jointly participating in the unlawful assembly along Kenyatta Avenue, Moi Avenue, Muindi Mbingu Street and University Way, Nairobi.

Fifteen others were charged last week following violent confrontation with the police.
