Nyeri court charges pastor with having indecent act with minor

A Nyeri court has charged a pastor with two counts of defilement.

Bishop Paul Kimani Mwangi of Christian Family Church of God was on Tuesday charged with defiling an 11-year-old girl on diverse dates between February 7 and 15, this year in Endarasha, Kieni West, Nyeri County.

In the second count, Mr Mwangi was charged with having an indecent act with the minor by touching her private parts.

The bishop, who denied the charges before Chief Magistrate Wendy Kagendo, was released on a Sh200,000 bond with a similar surety.

He, however, told the court that he was implicated in the case since he is from Narok County and had only visited Kieni area to preach the gospel.

“I am only two months old in the area (Kieni West). I know nobody there and I wish you can assist me connect with my family in Narok so that they can be informed of my situation,” the accused, who was holding clutches, pleaded with the court.

The court ordered that a probation officer visits Mr Mwangi in police custody to collect his personal details and assist him in meeting his family.

The magistrate also directed the prosecution to supply the court with witnesses’ statements and any other exhibits to be used during the accused's trial.

The case will be heard on March 9.
