A police officer accused of attempting to kill an Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) official in Elgeyo-Marakwet County has been released on bail.

Mr Kennedy Onyango Ouma was accused of attempting to kill Mr Amos Kalya, an electoral officer, after an argument.

The incident happened at Kapkut Primary School polling station on August 8.

The officer, posted to secure IEBC officers at the polling station, had an argument with Mr Kalya and he started shooting in air as he threatened to kill him causing other officers to take cover.

The court heard that Mr Ouma who is facing a second count of unlawful use of a G3 firearm discharged two rounds unlawfully with the aim of injuring the official.

Mr Ouma denied the charge and was released on Sh100,000 bond with a surety of a similar amount.

The magistrate directed that the case be mentioned on August 24 and the hearing was set for September 6.
