Two die, 49 injured in Kinungi road accident

Two people have died including a child and 49 others injured after a bus they were travelling in crashed near Kinungi at the Naivasha-Nairobi highway.

The bus was ferrying 58 believers from Nairobi's Kibera SDA church to a funeral in Homa Bay County.

One person in critical condition has been referred to Nakuru Level Five Hospital for specialised treatment, Dr Joseph Mburu the medical superintendent at Naivasha Hospital has confirmed.

According to a survivor, Mr Nicholas Adipo, the driver lost control of the vehicle after the brakes failed.

Mr Adipo said he realised they were in danger after the vehicle started cruising in high speed in the steep area following the brake failure.

“He swerved from the tarmac as he avoided hitting vehicles ahead of him and oncoming traffic,” said Mr Adipo.

Mr Adipo said the bus skidded and overturned before gliding over 100 metres.

“I was lucky to have escaped unhurt and was among those pulling my church mates trapped inside the bus,” he said.

He said they were supposed to have left Nairobi early Sunday morning but they vehicle delayed.
