The student who amused President Uhuru Kenyatta during last year’s drama festival, Daniel Owira of Highway Secondary School, is back on the stumps this year, hoping to clinch a top position.

Spectators scrambled into the hall to watch his narrative entitled “Apondi Situnya” scripted and directed by Ouma Clifford Sidandi.

He thrilled the audience with his humorous lines in the narrative that focuses on the issue of eating cakes laced with hard drugs.

The audience waited for the performance at Kagumo College during the 55th Edition of Kenya Schools and Colleges National Drama Festival with bated breath.

President’s son

And when he took to the stage, “The President’s Son” as many refer to him, did not disappoint.

Owira, who now enjoys a full educational sponsorship from the President, seemed to have drawn a lot of confidence from last year’s rendition of his narrative “Otonglo Time” as members of the audience laughed uproariously at his numerous jokes.

In the narrative, a Form One boy gets into trouble barely two days after admission at Manywanda Od Otenga Secondary School in Nyatege County.

When he is forced by Form Fours to eat a cake which unknown to him has been laced with hard drugs. The aftermath is a painful experience for the innocent boy. He starts behaving abnormally, at one point confronting the teacher of mathematics and demanding that maths should grow up and solve its own problems.

Luckily the boy is taken to a rehabilitation centre and after guidance and couselling he resumes his studies.

The winners will be announced Sunday evening.
