A man who shot dead a nurse at a private clinic in Nairobi was arraigned at the High Court yesterday.
However, Joseph Njoroge Mungai did not plead to the murder charge preferred against him as he is awaiting a psychiatric examination.
State counsel Catherine Mwaniki told senior deputy registrar, criminal division, Roselyn Aganyo that Mr Mungai will face a murder charge.
She said he will be called upon to answer the charge of murdering Faustine Mwadilo Mwadime on Wednesday evening at the Chiromo Lane Medical Centre in Westlands Nairobi County contrary to section 203 as read with section 204 of the penal code.
Mr Mungai was produced in court amid threats of an industrial action by the Kenya National Nurses Union over the fatal shooting of Mr Mwadime.
He was not, however, called upon to plead to the charge , “ since it was his first appearance to court.”
Ms Mwaniki prayed that Mr Mungai be detained at the Industrial Area Prison up to December 11 when the case will be mentioned before a judge for further directions.
Mr Mungai was accompanied by his lawyer Kimamo Kuria when he was brought to court.
Ms Mwaniki informed the court that the accused requires to be taken through some medical process to assess his mental status before he can be called upon to plead to the capital charge of murder.
