An Australian national was on Sunday morning shot dead at his residence in Runda, Nairobi.

Nairobi County Commander Benson Kibue said that about ten attackers, 6 of them in Administration Police uniform, raided the residence of Patrick John Richer, 39, and shot him twice in the chest at close range, adding that the police were in the process of establishing whether the suspects who were in AP uniform were indeed officers.

His Kenyan wife, Lesili Richer, was however not injured during the robbery during which the attackers stole a TV set, phones and two laptops.

The deceased was the Creative Director with TBWA Flame Tree, an international advertising agency.

The attack occured at around 1.40am when the gunmen cut through part of the rear live fence.

The founder and CEO of Flame Tree Ltd, Tim Symth, said the deceased moved to the house at the end of September this year. “ I cannot understand why he would be targeted. He moved to this house towards the end of September and the first thing he did was to know the neighbours,” said Mr Smyth. The house, according to police, had been the target of three different robberies in the last one year and the deceased was the latest victim.

Mr Kibue, while speaking at the scene in company of the Nairobi CID boss Nicholas Kamwende, said that they were investigating the incident to establish the motive of the attack and the identity of the attackers.
