Police in Nairobi have asked the public to assist them in the search for a group behind child prostitution.

This comes after images of exploited children went viral on social media.

Kilimani police boss Peter Katam said the disturbing images of two nude girls would help officers in their search for the suspects.

Mr Katam said he was not sure whether the images — widely shared on WhatsApp, Facebook and Twitter — were taken in Kenya.

He said the police would, however, deal with any individual involved in child pornography and other forms of sexual exploitation and harassment.

“I urge everyone to give information to the police concerning any kind of sexual crimes against children and any other person in society,” said Mr Katam.

“Parents should really be watchful of their children as some of them are falling prey to sex offenders, day in day out.”

“Many of these cases go unreported, so it is difficult for the police to find the perpetrators,” he added.

He warned the public against circulating the images.
