Five suspected thugs were Thursday night shot dead by police in two separate robbery attempts in Nairobi and two guns were found on them.

The first shooting took place on Kabarnet Road in the Kilimani area, where officers killed three men who were riding on a motorcycle.

Police say the men had tried to attack and rob police officers who were in an unmarked car. The officers then turned on them with guns.

SECOND SHOOTING

The second shooting took place in the Muslim area of Kawangware, where two men were shot dead while allegedly attacking and mugging residents.

Police say they were called and informed of an ongoing mugging spree.

The officers rushed there and killed two suspects while four others escaped on foot.

Police say they have intensified patrols in the city to deal with rising cases of armed robberies.
