Police have given ODM the green light to resume its grassroots elections in Migori County, a day after they were cancelled.

County police commander David Kirui on Tuesday said they allowed the polls to continue after delegates promised to maintain peace.

The elections had been called off following chaos that resulted in the deaths of three people.

"Enough security personnel have been deployed to monitor the polls. We have locked gates to the venue and only bona fide delegates are being allowed in," said Mr Kirui.

ODM national elections board member Peter Odoyo is on the ground monitoring the elections.

"The police could not purport to cancel the elections. We were determined to continue even without the police consent," said the former Nyakach MP.

Delegates from the constituencies that held parallel elections were yet to agree by Tuesday midmorning on how to harmonize separate lists of delegates, and were still holding crisis meetings.
