Police are investigating the mysterious death of an Italian male at the Sankara Hotel in Nairobi on Thursday morning.

The 47-year-old man was found dead on the floor of his room at around 10.30am by workers after a taxi driver he had called told them his client was not answering his calls.

Police said the man had been staying at the hotel since Tuesday. They said the man had injuries on the left side of his head.

Gigiri OCPD Vitalis Otieno said police were trying to trace his family to inform them of his death.

It is not yet clear what the Italian was doing in the country and when he arrived.

The hotel management did not allow journalists to see the crime scene but two police vehicles were at the hotel.

A number of police officers could be seen at the hotel.

Security Manager Gordon Oduor initially claimed the man had collapsed and had been taken to hospital.

He later confirmed the death of the Italian.

“The circumstances under which he died are now up to the police to investigate,” Mr Oduor said.

The body was taken to the Chiromo Mortuary.
