Police pursue gang that attacked Kuppet chairman

Police in Vihiga County are pursuing a gang that attacked Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) National chairman Omboko Milemba last Saturday.

Emuhaya police boss Benson Kilonzo said no arrests have been made and appealed to members of public to volunteer information on the incident.

“We have not arrested any suspect so far and we welcome information from people who witnessed the incident,” said Mr Kilonzo.

He said the incident left Mr Milemba with a damaged eye after the suspects poured corrosive substances in it.

Mr Milemba has since claimed that his life is in danger and asked Inspector General of Police David Kimaiyo to provide him with security.

He cited three different cases in the past where he has been attacked with the recent one being the Saturday incident.

“I strongly believe that somebody is after my life. On Saturday March 22, 2014, I was trailed by unknown people in a vehicle the whole day. During the incident the attackers who were five in number poured some corrosive chemicals into by left eye in the evening,” said Mr Milemba.

He said he was attacked at his gate in the evening and the suspect fled using a motorbike and a getaway vehicle that was parked about 600 metres from his home.

Mr Milemba said that the suspects only managed to take away his mobile phone.

He said that other union officials have also been attacked and expressed fears that they could be the targets.

Mr Edwin Obwocha who is the secretary for secondary schools said that last year he was attacked and more than Sh700,000 stolen from him just after withdrawing them from a bank while the union 's nation al treasurer Njenga Mithwi was last month attacked at his home in Kiambu.

“We are seeing something. We do not want to take chances and that is why we are asking the government to intervene and assure us our security,” Mr Obwocha said.
