Armed attackers raided Pandanguo village in Lamu County and stole six guns from Kenya Police Reservists (KPR) before torching houses early Friday.

Lamu County Commissioner Miiri Njenga said several houses and a dispensary were torched and added the authorities were yet to confirm if there were any casualties.

Mr Njenga said police and Kenya Defence Forces personnel had been deployed to the area.

Deputy Inspector General of Police Mr Samuel Arachi was also expected to visit the area Friday.

One of the residents said the attackers went to a mosque where some men and the reservists were praying at around 10pm.

“They ordered the KPR to surrender their guns and warned if they resist they will be shot,” said Twahir Hassan.

He said the attackers then left the mosque and went to Pandanguo dispensary, where they looted before setting the building on fire.

The attackers also burnt two classrooms, a store and a teachers’ office at Pandanguo Primary School.
