President Kenyatta pays tribute to the late retired Archbishop Lele

President Uhuru Kenyatta Wednesday evening paid tribute to the retired Catholic Church Archbishop Boniface Lele, who died in the morning.

In his message from Turkey, President Kenyatta said the country has lost a dedicated religious leader who served the Church with commitment and devotion until his resignation from service last year due to ill health.

“On behalf of the Government and the people of Kenya, and on my own behalf, I send this message of consolation and encouragement following the demise of Archbishop Lele. I join the Catholic Church in mourning a great religious leader whose exemplary service should be emulated by others,” President Kenyatta said.

He extolled the virtues exhibited by the late Archbishop Lele, especially his selfless service to the society by initiating projects that directly benefited the congregation.

“As we mourn Archbishop Lele’s death, let us also be grateful that he lived his life well in the Lord and has left an indelible mark on the lives of all those who had the opportunity to know him,” President Kenyatta said.

The President prayed to God to give the bereaved the courage and strength to bear the loss, saying he shared in the grief occasioned by the death of the steadfast religious leader.
