President signs law reforming electoral processes

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Wednesday signed into law Bill that provides for the exit of Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Commissioners.

President Kenyatta assented to the Bill following the passage of the Election Laws (Amendment) Bill 2016 through the National Assembly and the Senate.

The signing of the bill will bring into force of law the Election Laws (Amendment) Act and the Election Offenses Act.

The Act introduces a wide range of electoral reforms including a new framework for the recruitment of IEBC Commissioners, while laying the platform for the orderly exit of the current office holders.
