A secondary school principal in Trans Nzoia county was Thursday charged with opening examination material before time.
Mr David Wafula, the principal of Bikeke Boys High School, was charged that on November 6, at Bikeke in Kiminini sub county, Trans Nzoia County, jointly with others not before court, he was found in possession of a chemistry exam paper before the scheduled exam time.
Mr Wafula, who appeared before Kitale Resident Magistrate Grace Sitati, denied the charge.
His lawyer, Mr Isaac Kiarie, requested the court to release his client on bond but the prosecution opposed it, arguing that the accused would interfere with witnesses.
The court will Friday decide whether the accused should be released on bond.
On Thursday, the examination which entered its fourth day with 615,773 students involved, went on smoothly, even as headteachers endured tough weather to deliver examination material. Several examination officials and security officers had to walk barefoot in flooded areas to deliver the material.
In Kiambu, Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i supervised the exam at Limuru Girls and Loreto Girls School. Several other senior government officials supervised the exams in various parts of the country.
