The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has obtained a court order stopping embattled Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho from transferring or withdrawing money from his CFC Stanbic Bank account to allow the tax agency to carry out an assessment of his tax returns.

Justice Hedwig Ongudi granted the orders in an application filed by KRA which has alleged that the governor had not met some of his tax obligations.

According to KRA, the governor has not filed his tax returns for the last three years. He filed his taxes for the period 2008 to 2013, where he indicated zero income save for 2010.

The taxman is convinced that Mr Joho must have earned money given he has two top of the range cars which are registered in his name, but has been declaring nil returns.

β€œIt is apparent that Mr Joho has been in receipt of income in respect of which no taxes have been charged,” KRA lawyer.
