What you need to know:

  • Equinox, an astronomical event, came third in the most popular topics among Kenyans.
  • Other top searches include 'How to get KPLC bill’ as 'How to heal a broken heart’ came in fifth.

The highly publicised party 'Project X’, equinox and Caroline Herschel — the first woman to discover a comet — attracted the highest amount of traffic on Google’s search engine in March.

Project X was a party that was to take place at an undisclosed location in Kileleshwa, Nairobi on March 12.

Its advertising content through the tagline “One night to lose your mind”, went viral on social media platforms prompting people to go online and find out more about the party.

It equally caught the attention of the police, the Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) as well as religious and political leaders, who launched campaigns against it and it did not take place.

Renowned astronomer Caroline Herschel also topped the list of the most searched topics after Google commemorated her 266th birthday with a Google Doodle.

Ms Herschel discovered eight comets, rediscovered another and assembled a catalogue of 560 previously unrecorded stars.

She was also the first woman to be paid for her contribution to science.

Equinox, an astronomical event, came third in the most popular topics among Kenyans.

This followed unusually hot temperatures that were attributed to this phenomenon which occurs when the plane of Earth’s equator passes through the centre of the Sun around March 20.
The phenomenon occurs twice each year, around March 20 and September 23.

Kenyans were more concerned about their wellbeing by seeking to learn more about Yellow fever, making it the fourth most trending search.

This is after two people were diagnosed with the disease and the Ministry of Health heightening surveillance for Yellow fever after a patient died at Kenyatta National Hospital while being treated.

BRUSSELS

Kenyans also searched for more information about Brussels, the capital city of Belgium following a terrorist attack that killed at least 32 people and injuring hundreds more in the bombings at Brussels airport and a central metro station.

Also on Kenyans list of searches was Maria Sharapova, a Russian professional tennis player, after she revealed that she had failed a drugs test at the Australian Open.

In the 'How to’ category, the most searched topic was 'How to calculate safe days’, indicating that a number of Kenyans are interested in alternative and natural birth control measures.

Kenyans were also interested in knowing how to calculate pregnancy week by week and how to check KCSE results online after the Kenya National Examination Council released exam results for the 2015 candidates, which was marred by irregularities.

Other top searches include 'How to get KPLC bill’ as 'How to heal a broken heart’ came in fifth.

Other than searching 'What is’ Project X, Kenyans also wanted to know more about Easter as it came in the third most searched topics.

In the 'What is’ category, Kenyans also searched about MRI, with a number seemingly interested to know how the Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) works.

It is a technique that uses a magnetic field and radio waves to create detailed images of the organs and tissues within your body.
