Deputy President William Ruto’s wife Rachel has started a foundation that will award scholarships to 470 needy students every year.

Mrs Ruto announced 10 students from each county will benefit from the initiative starting next year.

“We will from 2015 award scholarships to 10 children that include five girls and same number of boys in each of the 47 counties,” when she paid a courtesy call to Homa Bay governor Cyprian Awiti.

Mrs Ruto said the government is committed to ensuring that the devolved government succeeds since it is the solution to local problems.

“I want to affirm that despite the few challenges, the government is committed to devolution,” she said.

Mr Awiti reiterated his government’s commitment to work with the national government.

“As a County, now that politics is over, our duty is to work closely with the national government for the sake of Kenyans,” said the Governor.
