Raiders torch houses in Baringo

Raiders attacked Mukutani village in Baringo South and burned one hotel and four houses at 11pm on Wednesday, County Police Commander Hassan Barua has confirmed.

Mr Barua said that no deaths or injuries had been reported. The raiders went to the village and shot in the air before setting ablaze at least four houses and a hotel.

“We have dispatched officers to the area to deal with the situation. However, calm has been restored,” he said.

Meanwhile, four people were killed and scores injured after raiders struck at Nadome in Tiaty Sub-county of Baringo County on Tuesday.

The more than 200 suspected Turkana raiders, armed with AK-47 rifles, are said to have attacked more than 10 villages on Tuesday night and fled with 5,000 cattle, 15,000 goats, 900 camels and more than 3,000 donkeys.

The animals were driven towards Turkana South sub-county.

Silale County Assembly Member Nelson Lotela complained about what he saw as the government’s slow response to the attack.

“People are living in fear as the raiders are said to be planning another attack,” Mr Lotela said.
