Revenge link in Nyakach deaths

The murder of Nyakach MP’s parents was not as a result of cattle rustling, initial investigations reveal.

The three attackers are believed to have been on a mission to revenge and also to silence Mr Aduma Owuor who has been on the frontline in the fight against cattle rustling.

In what appeared to be a well-planned attack, the attackers are said to have surveyed the homestead in advance since on arrival at the compound, they went straight to the metre box and disconnected the power before brutally murdering Francis Owuor, 83, and his wife Mary, 65.

There were cows in the compound that were never stolen.

Mr Aduma has also urged the police to fully investigate the weekend attack, claiming that the people held in custody might not be behind the attacks.

“The culprits are still roaming around the villages and in Kisumu. We want an account of how the police arrived at arresting the said persons and what connects them to the criminal incident where I lost my parents,” he said.

Detectives said the suspects arrested may not have directly been involved in the murder, but are those who were taken to the police earlier this year on suspicion of being involved in cattle rustling.

Residents believe the criminals, usually armed with pangas, bows and arrows, have no network of revenging. None of these weapons was used during the attack.

Though a vehicle was spotted in the area before the attack, the residents did not get curious since the law maker is fond of changing cars whenever he visits his parents. Investigations have also revealed that the rustlers normally plan their mission at a restaurant near Sondu’s Equity Bank.

Cattle-rustling has transformed to a commercial practice.
