Riots have rocked Mitaboni in Machakos County following the killings of five guards in a gang attack that left four other security officers injured.

Three guards died on the spot, according to Kathiani OCPD Mildred Odima.

One more guard succumbed to his injuries at Kathiani Level 4 Hospital while the fifth died on the way to Makueni District Hospital.

The injured guards had to be taken to Makueni District Hospital because doctors in Machakos County are on strike.

Osman Mohammed, the officer in charge of the Kenol Police Station, said police shot in the air to disperse the protesters.

During the demonstrations, residents urged Internal Security Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery to address rising insecurity in the area.
