Roads upgrade to start in Nyandarua

Nyandarua Governor Daniel Waithaka Mwangi has ordered the grading of all roads in Ol’Kalou town which then be tarmacked soon.

Addressing the businesses in Ol’kalou town last week, the governor said the tarmacking be done in partnership with the national government.

“The national government is committed to this project and we expect to tarmac some eight kilometres,” he said.

Mr Waithaka said his administration would put up an eco-toilet in Huruma estate and challenged the residents to form an association to address common problems facing them. The governor said the government had finalised plans to plant trees along the streets.

“We need to demonstrate our commitment in the beautification of this town so that we can attract investors,” he said.

The governor was with Nyandarua Speaker Ndegwa Wahome, Kimani Njiraini, a ward rep and the Minister for Trade Judy Mwangi.

He defended the move by his administration to take matatus in one location, saying the numerous bus parks were clogging roads.

Finance minister Nderi Ndiani said the county government has so far collected Sh186 million in taxes which is way above the Sh170 million that used to be collected annually by the defunct Ol’Kalou town council and Nyandarua county council.
