The body of the widow of former Foreign Affairs Minister Robert Ouko has arrived at Lee Funeral Home.

The body was transferred from Lazurus Funeral Home in Kericho.

Family and friends spent the better part of the day at Lee waiting for the body to arrive.

Among those present to receive the body were former Kitui Senator David Musila and Muhoroni MP James Koyoo.

Mr Musila's eldest son is married to the late Ouko's third born daughter.

SHOCKED

"As a family we are shocked by this tragedy, she was a great pillar of society," said Mr Musila.

"She will be dearly missed."

Mr Koyoo on his part noted that he was brought up by the Ouko family and the passing of Mrs Ouko is like the loss of a mother to him.

He said that at the time of her death they were working together on a number of projects to benefit Muhoroni constituents.

" I'm emotionally depressed by the loss of a close ally and a relative," he said.

"She was involved in a lot of projects in education and other social economic programmes in our area," he said adding that she had began a number of schools in the area named after her late husband.

BLEEDING

Mrs Ouko had been rushed for treatment at Siloam Hospital after the Monday evening accident at Muhoroni on Kisumu-Kericho road.

She died minutes later while undergoing treatment from what doctors said was internal bleeding.

Mr Bett said Mrs Ouko was unconscious when she arrived and doctors tried to resuscitate her in vain.

"The doctors did all they could. Sadly she passed," said Mr Bett.

INJURIES

She was brought in around 4pm together with her son, Mr Ken Ouko, who escaped unhurt.

Two other occupants of the vehicle, a man and woman, sustained minor injuries and were treated and released.

Mr Ouko was driving when the accident happened. The car was towed to Kericho Police station.
