Gang raped guests in Uhuru kin killing

What you need to know:

  • Rose Waruinge's guests were violated when the gangsters took them hostage.
  • The four guests were taken to a private clinic for medical assessment.

The gunmen who killed a relative of President Kenyatta at an upmarket residence in Nairobi also sexually molested her guests, a court heard on Tuesday.

Ms Rose Waruinge, a cousin of the President, was shot above her right breast. She was a prominent city lawyer.

Her guests were violated when the gangsters took them hostage at Ms Waruinge’s residence on George Padmore Road in Nairobi on February 10, 2012.

The four guests, also relatives of the Head of State, were taken to a private clinic for medical assessment, but later declined to be further examined by a police doctor, a detective said.

DECLINED FURTHER CHECKS

CID officer John Kuria, who was the first at the scene, said no P3 form was filled for the injuries sustained after the guests declined further checks.

He was testifying in a case in which five people, including the deceased’s night guard, are charged with robbery.

“It was around 8pm when we received a report of a shooting near Yaya Centre. We were shown the scene by a neighbour who had heard gunshots. When we went into the compound we found four women crying hysterically.

“They told us they were invaded by a five-man gang armed with a gun,” Mr Kuria said.

“I was told that the deceased’s son had just rushed her to Nairobi Hospital and I was instructed to follow to assess her condition,” Mr Kuria said.

He said that when he arrived at the hospital, he found the lawyer’s body draped in a white cloth at the casualty.

DRIED BLOOD STAINS

“She had been shot above the right breast,” the officer said.

The clothes presented in court included a black skirt, a brown top and underwear with dried blood stains. Mr Kuria said he handed them to officer John Shegu.

Mr Shegu was stood down after a lawyer demanded a paper trail showing why the suspects were arrested.

The hearing resumes on October 1.
