Top boy in exam wants to become a neurosurgeon

Not even the ban on schools’ and candidates’ ranking could dampen the joy and celebration at Awelo Primary School after it emerged that the best performing boy and second candidate nationally came from the institution.

Russel Omondi Otieno, 14, attained 440 marks in the just released Kenya Certificate of Primary Education exams.

Omondi, who spoke to the Nation, hopes to join Alliance Boys High School and aspires to become a neurosurgeon after his university education.

COULD NOT HIDE HER JOY

He attributed the success to hard work, his teachers, parents and teamwork with his classmates.

“I feel very happy about these results; my joy knows no bounds. I thank my teachers and fellow pupils for helping me achieve this,” the boy said.

Mr Barack Were Odhiambo, the headteacher of the school in Siaya County, said Omondi’s marks were the best the school and the entire county had posted in many years.

Mr Odhiambo said Omondi had been performing well and the school expected good results from him despite the institution lacking basic infrastructure.

Omondi’s mother, Mrs Beatrice Akinyi Otieno, who accompanied him to the school could not hide her joy when she realised her son was the best boy nationally.

She said her son was a hard-working disciplined boy, who loved school and school work. She hopes that he will achieve his dream of becoming a doctor in the future.
