The school’s name means “the one who steals”. And indeed Nyakoiba Secondary School in Kisii County lived up to its name when the results of 2014 KCSE examinations were released on Tuesday.

According to the Kenya National Examinations Council, its candidates were found to have stolen in the exams and by yesterday, the school had not received its results.

Principal Samuel Obworo told Nation that the school was yet to receive its results but refused to disclose the number affected.

The mixed day and boarding school in Bomachoge Constituency was in the spotlight as the results were being released.

One Facebook user expressed frustration over the cancellation of his nephew’s Kiswahili result.

Mr Charles Keya said in a post his nephew scored straight As in all seven subjects but had been awarded a “Y” in Kiswahili. “This is very sad indeed,” he wrote.

Mr Keya had not responded to our request to comment on the matter by the time of going to press.

Nyakoiba was the third best district school in Kenya in 2013. It registered 188 candidates and had a performance index of 62.83.
Since Tuesday, Facebook has been awash with comments about the coincidence.

NYAKO WIZI

Mr Leonard Omari said: “The name betrays the school “NYAKO-WIZI”.

Mr Alfred Onsongo, a parent, said his son Dennis Moseti received a “Y” in his Kiswahili result, the same as 215 others in the school.
“No student in the school got their result. There is no communication yet from management,” said Mr Onsongo.

Mr Charles Kenya, 25, is a guardian of Daniel Kenyansa, who was also awarded a “Y” in Kiswahili.

“I was devastated when he sent me a text indicating that his result had been annulled,” he told Nation.

Separately, candidates at Senior Chief Koinange High School in Kiambu are yet to receive their results, three days after they were released, throwing parents and the candidates into confusion.

Teachers said they were not aware why the results were being withheld.

Parents are not able to access the results though the SMS number provided.

Mr Samuel Mungai said he has been requesting for his niece Lucy Waithira’s results since Tuesday in vain.

A teacher who sought anonymity said the examination council had informed the school that its results were under investigation.
The school administration through a text message, has told parents to be patient.

The principal said investigations were being carried out on how the examinations were conducted, causing to the delay.
