Security group embarks on member registration ahead of launch

A society for professionals in criminology and security sector has embarked on aggressive recruitment of members ahead of its launch in July.

The Kenya Professional Society of Criminology (KEPSOC) whose members are drawn from the National Police Service, the Prisons Service, media and other security firms currently, has so far recruited over 200 members.

The society’s chairman Munene Mugambi said the society is targeting to register at least 2,000 members by the end of the year.

“We are doing our second recruitment and will embark on the third one before the end of next month so that we can capture as more members as possible,” said Mr Mugambi.

He added that the society has lined up a series of activities that will culminate in its official launch in July.

“Our membership is derived from professionals in the area of criminology and security from both the public and private sector,” said Mr Munene adding that the minimum requirement for membership is for one to have a Bachelor’s degree in either criminology or security studies.

However, he said any professional with experience in security matters can also become a member of the society.

“Our aim is to architecture a team of professionals in the criminal justice and administration of security that shall constructively engage with other professionals from various disciplines and institutions, within and outside, harness and synergise their knowledge and experience to foster our mission and vision,” said Mr Munene.
