An assistant director with Sports Kenya is facing 12 counts of corruption-related charges.

The charges against Francis King’ori Githaiga arose from a contract he allegedly awarded a company he had an interest in on different dates in 2012.

He is said to have committed the offence when the organisation was called Sports Stadia Management Board. It has since changed its name to Sports Kenya.

He was charged with signing three cheques amounting to Sh1.8 million in favour of East Africa Business Ltd, which had been awarded an advertising contract by the board.

He was released on a Sh3 million bond with a surety of a similar amount with an alternative cash bail of Sh1.5 million.

The case will be heard on October 7.
