UPDATE: Eight die after consuming toxic brew in Nandi

The number of people who died Thursday after consuming illicit brew in Nandi Central sub-county has risen to eight.

Seven people died on arrival at Kapsabet Hospital, while another victim succumbed hours later while undergoing medication.

Among those who died are an assistant chief, a teacher and a public health technician.

The eight died in different areas of the sub-county.

Medics at the hospital claim the victims consumed alcohol brands imported from Uganda.

The brands are Coffee Spirit and Premium Gin.

Kapsabet Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr Francis Maiyo said the hospital would conduct autopsies on the bodies to determine the exact cause of death.
