Shock and grief gripped Siakago town in Kenya's Eastern province after an Administration Police officer went berserk on Saturday night, opening fire and killing at least 10 people including two colleagues in a bizarre love triangle drama.

Two people also sustained serious injuries during the ordeal and have been transferred to the Embu provincial hospital.

The uniformed officer, who was on night duty as a sentry guard at the residence of the Mbeere North district commissioner, is said to have been frenzied by news that his lover had allegedly been seen accompanied by another man within Siakago town.

He reportedly went out to look for the couple in three drinking joints, shooting indiscriminately at patrons each time his search proved unsuccessful.

The officer is said to have also shot at his colleagues who were responding to the gun shots that had rent the air. Reports also said that he made an attempt at his life but ran out of ammunition.

He then submitted himself at the Siakago Police station from where he was subsequently transferred to an unknown destination.

Bodies of the victims are at Siakago sub-district hospital.

Siakago town residents staged a demonstration at the Police station on Sunday morning to protest at the killings.
