Former Judiciary Chief Registrar Gladys Shollei will face new prosecution after the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) ruled that she be charged with abuse of office and failure to comply with procurement laws.

The DPP made the decision following recommendations of the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission, which accused Mrs Shollei of involvement in unlawful payments for the construction of law courts.

Mrs Shollei, who already has a case in court regarding procurement of Chief Justice Willy Mutunga’s house, will be prosecuted over her alleged involvement in the irregular payment of Sh46 million to Ms Timsales Limited for the construction of Mavoko Law Courts.

She will be charged alongside seven other former employees of the Judiciary:

“Upon careful and independent analysis of the evidence in the inquiry file, the DPP was satisfied that there is sufficient evidence to support the recommended charges against all the suspects,” said a statement sent to newsrooms.

But former acting Director of Immigration Jane Waikenda and a former Managing Trustee of the National Social Security Fund, Mr Richard Lang’at, are out of the hook after the DPP ruled that there was no evidence to warrant their prosecution on the allegations against them.
