A second corruption case relating to the loss of Sh18 million in the Judiciary has been filed against former Chief Registrar Gladys Shollei.

In the case filed at a Nairobi court Tuesday, the prosecution claims Ms Shollei and her co-accused unilaterally increased the advance down payment for the buildings from 10 per cent to 50 per cent without the approval of the tender committee.

Ms Shollei who was said to be on holiday is charged with abuse of office, alongside seven members of a contract negotiation committee.

“My client was not aware about the charges being presented to court today but EACC has confirmed they have carried out due diligence that she is out of the country,” a lawyer representing Ms Shollei said.

They are accused of “conferring benefits” to undeserving companies for construction of court buildings in Mavoko, Garsen and Runyenjes.

Ms Shollei’s co-acussed, including suspended deputy chief registrar Kakai Kissinger, denied multiple corruption charges.

Chief Magistrate Felix Kombo ordered that Ms Shollei presents herself for plea taking on January 12, 2016.

The rest, including former director of supply chain management Mr Martin Okwata, his deputy Mr Benedict Omollo, director for transport Mr Nicholas Okemwa, denied the charges and were each released on bonds of Sh1 million.
