Six suspects are under investigation for the murder of a member of the county assembly and a parliamentary aspirant in Baringo.

The National Police Service on Thursday said it had crucial leads that will help investigators unravel the killings of Loyamorok Ward Representative Frederick Cheretei and Tiaty constituency parliamentary aspirant Symon Kitambaa, popularly known as Pepee.

Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet said the six suspects were the subject of police forensic inquiries and could soon be charged in court.

Mr Boinnet said the Directorate of Criminal Investigations is under strict instructions to expedite the inquiries into the murders and arraign the culprits as soon as possible.

The two politicians were shot by masked men inside the T-Junction bar in Marigat town, Baringo County, early Sunday morning.

A vehicle belonging to the MCA was also torched while that of the aspirant was partly damaged.

On Thursday, Mr Boinnet asked Kenyans to stop speculating about the killings.

“We urge members of the public to refrain from making unnecessary speculation or finger-pointing that may compromise our investigations,” he said.
