Tributes for Nyeri Governor Nderitu Gachagua have been flooding social media since his death was reported early Friday.

Mr Gachagua died while undergoing treatment for pancreatic cancer at a London hospital.

The hashtag #RIPGachagua is being used on Twitter to share the grief and sorrow felt by some users over the news and to pay condolences to his family.

On Twitter @Bonke_sam wrote, “A good heart has stopped beating, a good soul ascended to heaven. May God grant the family strength during this hard times. #RIPGachagua."

Another user @saitoti_maitapei wrote, “Heartfelt condolences to Nyerians take heart. May God comfort your County and his Family #RIPGachagua."

DIED IN LONDON

Some users expressed sympathy with doctor currently on strike, saying it was sad the governor died in a foreign hospital at a time when Kenya's public health services have been paralysed by the industrial action.

“The death of #RIPGachagua is untimely because he has died in a foreign hospital at a time when our public health is completely paralyzed,” bob¬_odhiambo wrote on his Twitter page.

Backing Odhiambo, @erwoti wrote, “Death as equalizer follows the wealthy to the western world where they go to seek medical help. #RIPGachagua Time to pay our doctors!”

Others described the governor as a fighter who repulsed attempts by the members of the Nyeri County Assembly to impeach him last year.

“#RIP Governor, They fought to impeach you on a daily basis, go rest! Till we meet again. Pole to your family. #RIPGachagua,” Annie Waiguru wrote on Twitter.
