Starehe Boys Centre principal Paul Mugo has been sent on forced leave following poor Form Four examination results.

The management committee also sent home the accounts officer and executive assistant to the director.

Deputy principal Peter Ndung’u will be in charge as a new head is sought, executive director Matthew Kithyaka told the press at the school on Wednesday.

“The school’s management committee decided to send the principal on one month’s leave. We have also sent on leave an administrator in the accounts department and the executive assistant to the director for an unspecified time,” Mr Kithyaka said.

He, however, refused to divulge the reasons for the forced leave.

The school dropped from position 12 in the 2012 KCSE examination nationally to 17 last year with a mean grade of 74.757, which is a B+. (VIDEO: Starehe drops further down giants’ ladder)

Last week, the principal blamed the 2012/2013 teachers’ strikes, which he said disrupted forms three and four studies.

A teacher who spoke to Nation on condition of anonymity said the principal was sent on leave because of poor results and other factors.

Mr Ndung’u said he was not authorised to speak to the press and referred us back to the school’s director.

“I can only confirm that I am now in charge. Kindly direct the other questions to the school’s director as he is the only one authorised to speak to the media,” he said.
