A doctoral student has sued the University of Nairobi over missing exam results.

Mr Adrian Kimathi Njenga, who is pursuing a doctorate in Business Administration, wants the university and its Vice Chancellor Peter Mbithi compelled to produce the results.

He claims marks for the Research Methods in Business exam that he sat for in 2013 did not appear in his transcript, and has been barred from proceeding with his course.

Out of the five units he sat for, he says, scores for only four were in his transcript.

UPDATE TRANSCRIPT

The student alleges that he had lost self-development opportunities due to lack of papers, and has been psychologically affected by the missing marks.

Through lawyer Antony Kibathi, Mr Njenga argues that the university's examination officers had promised to update his transcript but ended up handing him the same incomplete result slip after an 18-month wait.

He accuses the exam officers of maliciously, illegally and unjustifiably withholding his results.

“Despite registering his grievance with multiple departments, including the vice chancellor’s office, no reply has been forthcoming,” said Mr Kibathi.

The student wants to be allowed to proceed to the next stage of the academic programme he started in January 2013, pending the resolution of the dispute.

The court is yet to hear the case.
