Lands ministry officers and committee members surveying Waitiki Farm in Likoni are on a go-slow over unpaid allowances.

The work is due to be completed on December 21.

An officer said they now risked being thrown out of their hotels.

“Most of us are from Nairobi and had been promised per diems immediately we started work,” the officer said, adding the lowest allowance was Sh5,400 per day.

Lands Cabinet Secretary Jacob Kaimenyi and National Land Commission chairman Muhammad Swazuri could not be reached for comment.

Last week, Dr Swazuri asked the 200 ministry officials and 70 committee members involved in the survey to be patient.

“Please do not spread stories that the allowances have been misappropriated because you cannot misappropriate money that is not there,” he said.

However, a committee member said when the President makes such a directive, there must be money allocated for it.
