  • The five are believed to be among a gang that kidnapped the boy from his home in Thika Town on Friday last week.

A police officer investigating the kidnapping of a four-year-old boy and the theft of Sh300,000 on Thursday asked the court to remand the five suspects for five days.

In a sworn affidavit, Constable Eric Gitonga told a Thika court that Ms Jacinta Nduta Mburu, Mr Patrick Njoroge Themba, Ms Faith Nyambura Kamwaro, Ms Monicah Ndunge Mululu and Mr John Kibiru Ndung’u were arrested on January 9 and 10, in Thika and Nairobi, in connection with robbery with violence and kidnapping of Kelson Kimani.

They were arrested when police rescued the boy.

“More time is required to analyse phone records of the accused whose phones were used to coordinate the crimes,” the police officer said.

The affidavit added that police are looking for the weapons used in the robbery.

“There are other exhibits related to the offence, which have not been found and the five need to facilitate the recovery,” Mr Gitonga said.

The court granted the officer his request.

“Based on the above, detectives want the respondents detained for five days at Thika Police Station to complete investigations,” he added.
