The Teachers Service Commission on Thursday raised alarm over fraudsters seeking information from retired teachers with the promise of helping them secure their pension.

Head of Communication, Kihumba Kamotho, said the commission is the sole custodian of employment records for all retired teachers.

Mr Kamotho said individuals are circulating inaccurate and misleading messages on social media requiring retired teachers or their dependants to present their employment and personal details so as to benefit from a court award.

The message reads: “If you know any teacher that retired between 1997-2007, kindly advise him or her or their next of keen (sic) to take copies of their ID, KRA PIN number, letter of permanent appointment and notification letter of retirement by TSC, marriage certificate/ affidavit/ chief letter that can show their marital status to 7th floor, Sheria House, Harambee avenue, Nairobi without delay.

This is in connection with their unpaid retirement benefits.”

Mr Kamotho said any information to the retired teachers regarding the 1997 retired teacher’s court case will be communicated through personal address, county offices, TSC website and the media.

“This is, therefore, to caution retired teachers and their dependants of fraudsters purporting to act for them,” he said.
