Tala Boys High School parents have demanded that the authorities order the removal of all window grills from dormitories.

They were talking to journalists on Wednesday evening after the school closed indefinitely following a fire in which a student died.

Six other students were admitted to hospital while eight were treated and discharged.

A parent, Mr James Maina, blamed the school administration for the tragedy.

“It is shocking that the school ignored the Education ministry’s directive to remove the grills. The number of injuries would have been minimised if that had been abided by,” he said.

Another parent Ruth Mutua demanded investigations and assurances that the boys would be safe when the school reopened.
