Five Cabinet Secretaries are expected to hand in their report next week on how to go about this.

The team chaired by Mining Cabinet Secretary Najib Balala and met Wednesday at the President’s office to put the final touches to its report.

This comes hot on the heels of a national dialogue to tame runaway public service wage bill.

“Our task is to compile a list of the things which should either be done away with or reduced so that money can be used elsewhere,” a member of the taskforce, who requested anonymity said, adding, only the President will release their report.

At the same time, a constitutional commission joined calls for a reduction in the number of elected leaders.

Commission on Revenue Allocation chairman Micah Cheserem said something had to be done to reduce the numbers.

“Do we really need 360 MPs or more than 2,000 MCAs, including nominated ones? We have to face reality,” he said on Citizen TV’s breakfast show Cheche Wednesday.

A source said the team was given two weeks to finish its work.
