A hammer and a long metal bar were found beside the bodies.

Eldoret South police boss Nicholas Maina identified two of the dead as security guards and the other as a nephew of one of the watchmen.

UNKNOWN ASSAILANTS

The man had been living with his uncle for the past three weeks while looking for a job in Eldoret Town.

The security guards were in their uniforms.

Mr Maina said investigations showed the three were killed in the early hours by unknown assailants.

The police boss said the attackers stole electronic equipment, which comprised two music mixers, three television sets and a Walkman. He appealed to traders to report anyone trying to sell such equipment.

Mr Rodgers Nasongo, who lives in the church compound, said he heard footsteps outside his house around midnight and then it started raining.

He said that he tried to find out what was happening then he heard loud bangs from the church.

“I was unable to leave my house to see what was happening because the door had been locked from outside,” he said

Mr Nasongo said he was rescued by a neighbour in the morning who told him of the gruesome deaths.

Hours earlier, a man was lynched and burnt by residents who claimed he was behind a series of robberies in the Kona Mbaya area of Langas Estate.
