Three killed in fresh Tana violence

Three people died after two villages were attacked in Tana River Tuesday morning.
A marauding gang descended on Nduru and Semikaro villages just a day after 38 people were killed in clashes pitting the Orma and Pokomo communities.
It is believed that the Orma were carrying out a revenge attack on the Pokomos following Monday’s attack that also left nine police officers dead.
An eye witness, Moroa Majid, said the village was attacked at around 7.15am.
He said the attackers invaded Semikaro and razed the whole village before moving to Nduru.
In Monday’s incident, the attackers estimated at between 200 and 300 strong struck around Kilelengwani Primary School in Garsen constituency. They were armed with guns, machetes, spears, bows and arrows.
They also ransacked a police camp based at the school.
The security team, drawn from the General Service Unit and regular police, said the attackers tricked the officers into thinking they were villagers fleeing an attack.
When officers went out to investigate the wailing and calls for help, the raiders opened fire.
The officers said the attack on Kilelengwani, an Orma settlement, was by suspected Pokomos in retaliation to last week’s raid on Chamwanamuma village where 12 people were killed.
Those killed included nine police officers from the GSU, AP, and regular police, and 29 civilians.
