Three men suspected to be gangsters were on Wednesday shot dead by police in Ngara, Nairobi.

An AK-47 rifle and 12 rounds of ammunition were found after the incident on Park Road. Two other suspected gangsters are said to have escaped.

Nairobi County police boss Japheth Koome confirmed the incident and said he would give more details later as a security operation was still under way.

The Nation independently established that officers from the Flying Squad unit had been trailing the suspects from Lavington.

A witness told the Nation that the men were pulled out of a car before the shooting started.
