What you need to know:

  • Mr Tobiko expressed concern that in the last couple of months, several allegations concerning the matter had been widely reported in the media.
  • On Tuesday, Cord leader Raila Odinga urged companies that took part in the Eurobond to release details of their transactions.
  • According to the coalition, the government has failed to account for Sh140 billion.

Kenya’s top public prosecutor Keriako Tobiko has given the anti-corruption commission and crime detectives ten days to investigate the Sh250bn Eurobond transactions.

Mr Tobiko’s move comes in the wake of the Opposition’s 14-day ultimatum for the government to explain how the Eurobond money was spent after claiming Sh140 billion is missing.

In a letter sent to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Wednesday, Mr Tobiko ordered agencies to “obtain evidence from all parties and forward file for appropriate directions.”

On Tuesday, Cord leader Raila Odinga urged firms that took part in the Eurobond to release transaction details.

In response to Mr Odinga’s claim, the Treasury invited the Cord leader to scrutinise the Eurobond’s transaction documents on Friday at 10am.
