KDF repulse Al-Shabaab attack in Wajir

Kenya Defence Forces on Friday night repulsed an attempt by heavily armed Somali-based Al-Shabaab terrorists to take control of a border Village of Wajir County, a top government official in the region has confirmed.

Mr Mohamud Saleh, the North Eastern Regional Coordinator told the Sunday Nation ten armed suspected Al-Shabaab terrorists came to Konton village in Wajir East which is about seven kilometres from war-torn Somalia, but were swiftly forced away by soldiers from the nearby Gerille camp.

He also said security personnel at Qorof Harar responded quickly assisted by the military to drive the terrorists away from Kenya soil.

The administrator denied claims on social media that the terrorists spent time in the village lecturing locals, saying they had no time as they escaped towards the border to Somalia after security personnel confronted them.

“They came to Konton village in Wajir East to scare resident but our officers after getting reports from locals were swift to repel them.  They managed to escape towards the Somalia Border specifically to Dare salaam which is about 10km inside Somalia,” he said.

Mr Saleh said Al-Shabaab had resorted to attempting to invade villages around the border to scare locals, seek publicity and create unnecessary tension.

He said those who invaded Konton village are believed to be from Dare salaam.
