Two denied bail in Sh1.3bn narcotics trafficking case

Two more people who were charged with trafficking heroin valued at Sh1.3 billion will remain in custody until their case is heard and determined.
Mr Khalid Agil Mohamed and Mr Mohamed Osman Ahmed were denied bail since they were likely to abscond trial, given the heavy penalty they are likely to face if convicted, a magistrate said.

Senior Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions Edwin Okello told Mombasa Chief Magistrate Maxwell Gicheru that he should not grant the bail request by the two saying the charges were serious.

But defence lawyer Jared Magolo said the accused could not jump bail as they were well-known Kenyans.

At the same time, a Mombasa businessman and politician, Mr Maur Bwanamaka, will now be charged with the same offence on Tuesday when all charges will be consolidated.
