COMMANDERED A BUS

Police said they were part of a six-man gang that commandeered a bus on Thika Road and robbed its passengers. It was heading to Githurai 45 estate.

The gang had boarded the vehicle belonging to Rockers Bus Company posing as passengers but produced guns mid-journey.

The gangsters who were armed with knives too, robbed the passengers of money and mobile phones before changing the course of the bus.
Police followed the vehicle and intercepted it on Mombasa Road. Three of the robbers jumped out and escaped.

Another bus belonging to Citti Hoppa was hijacked in yet another incident at 10pm, on Jogoo Road. It was travelling to Umoja estate.

The robbers abandoned it in Kiambiu slums and fled on foot with Sh27,000 and mobile phones belonging to the passengers.

Police spokesperson Gatiria Mboroki asked matatu operators to adhere to safety precautions introduced by the government, to prevent such incidents.

“If all the passengers who boarded the public service vehicles were screened, those incidents could not have happened,” she said.
