President Kenyatta in Arusha to witness signing of South Sudan agreement

ARUSHA

President Uhuru Kenyatta arrived in Arusha, Tanzania, ON Wednesday morning to witness the historic signing of an agreement between South Sudan’s rival factions of the ruling Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM).

President Kenyatta is attending the ceremony as the Igad rapporteur.

The plane carrying the President touched down at Kilimanjaro International Airport shortly after 11am.

The warring SPLM factions reached a successful conclusion to dialogue after intense negotiations that have been going on in Tanzania.

Other regional leaders expected at the event are host President Jakaya Kikwete, President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda, South Africa’s Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa, President Salva Kiir of South Sudan, Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn and former vice-president of South Sudan Riek Machar.
